I love the honesty here. We writers are such an odd lot. As I read about your degrees and accomplishments (Glimmer Train, WOW!) I immediately feel inadequate. Then I read on to your words about the writing/self-esteem troughs and my first thought is, ‘Why you?’ I can understand my low points, but I see you here as someone who has a lot going for her. So why is it that we are so hard on ourselves? I wonder if it’s a prerequisite of being a writer. Love the descriptions of your dogs. I’m at the opposite end of the spectrum, still missing my Irish Wolfhound who passed away. Love the large mellow presence of a big dog. Good luck with your writing.
From one fellow writer to another, I just wanted to say that you have an excellent blog. I am so glad that I was able to discover your blog. I just spent some time reading through your posts on your homepage. Wow. You are a great writer. Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed!
I stumbled upon your blog quite by accident while parusing the home page of WordPress.com. I found your post about the mansion quite sad, yet inspirational. Sad that it was demolished but at the same time I was inspired to draw more from my immediate surroundings. I have had considerable difficulty thinking of topics to blog about. There’s no problem pounding out a 4000 word short story in a sitting or two, but my blog is suffering a bit. The latter worries me more than the former as I embark on my MFA journey in less than two weeks. I am eager to get started. Thanks for sharing your story and photos.
@Jeffrey: good luck on your MFA! 🙂
Forgot the site updates check box.
Cheers.
Hey, Christine: I just wanted to give you a little blog award and tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog. See it here: http://thegirlinthehat.wordpress.com/2011/06/14/the-free-love-blog-award%E2%80%94no-strings-attached/
Thanks!
Anna
@Anna: wow, thank you very much! I cherish any and all awards given to me (we writers need all we can get). 😉 I did get a blogger award awhile back, and posted my response here: https://czilka.wordpress.com/2011/02/07/stylish-blogger-award/
This blog + your writing makes me sigh with relief. I really love your writing, and will now keep a very close eye upon it.
Thanks for the inspiration, keep up being awesome!
Oh thank you, Words! Sometimes I’m actually *breathing* a sigh of relief while I write, so I’m glad to hear you are feeling it. 🙂
stumbled upon you via your chicken soup post on the muffin top blog. I love your writing and your honesty and your humor. (a big plus for me.) Finish your novel – I’d love to read it.
@week of menus: thank you! thank you. thank you. 🙂 i hope you stop by some more, and that you enjoy the north korean chicken soup.
OK, I suck. I love the whole relay idea, but I’m not sure I get the rules. The people you have listed haven’t posted their part yet. Does that mean that I wait until the last person on the list does post? OR, should I just blog my part off of yours?
Sorry. I just love the idea and want to be a part!
Thx,
gabe
hi gabe: we just began the relay–so no one has their post up yet. they will be putting up their posts, one at a time, one after another.
at this point, the relay is only people who are invited on the list that you see here–though you are welcome to use this as your personal writing exercise separate of our relay! (not a bad idea).

I’m so glad I found your blog (via a tweet from @HerKindVIDA). I’m a writer with 22-month-old twins and let me tell you, it can be done! Thanks for sharing your stories here. I love your “honest writer bio” — it makes me consider my own …
Thank you so much, R. 🙂 You’re inspiring!
